Opening Sentences

O Lord, our God, you are very great.
You are clothed in glory and majesty,
wrapped in a robe of light.

You set the earth on its foundations,
never to be shaken.
May the glory of the Lord endure forever.
Let us sing to the Lord as long as we live.
Let us sing praises to God our whole life long.
Let us worship God!

 Salutation:

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen.

*Hymn of Praise   On Pentecost  They Gathered

Call to Confession

The promise of Pentecost lies in the relentless, irresistible activity of God, whose Spirit comes among us with power and grace. God refuses to leave us alone, but rather keeps showing up with mercy and love. In confidence, let us confess our sin.

 Prayer of  Confession

Holy God,  you have shown yourself to us in Jesus, perfect in every way, compassionate and kind, faithful and loving, gracious and        hospitable. We stumble and fall as we seek to follow him, struggling to make his ways our ways. Our sins are real, and they are many.
Forgive our failings and encourage us to start again.

 Assurance of Pardon

The Holy Spirit animates our lives, lifting us into the presence of Christ, and sealing our hearts in the promise of his faithful love.
This is good news!
In Jesus Christ we are forgiven!

  The Law of God:

*Gloria Patri | #579

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

*Commitment to Peace Keeping and Peace Seeking

One: May the peace of Christ be with you!

All: And also with you!

Share a sign of peace with one another. After sharing the peace, let us all sing together:

Together, by grace, we witness and work, remembering Jesus, in whom we grow strong. Together we serve in Spirit and truth, remembering love is the strength of our song.

THE WORD OF GOD

Prayer for Illumination

Gracious God, Living Word, as you revealed yourself to Mary that Easter morning, so reveal yourself to us. By the power of your Spirit, give each of us faith, that hearing your Word we, too, may proclaim, “I have seen the Lord!” Amen.

Silent Reflection

THE RESPONSE TO GOD

*Affirmation of Faith Adapted from the Confession of 1967, 9.20

God the Holy Spirit, fulfills the work of reconciliation in human life.
The Holy Spirit creates and renews the church
as the community in which people are reconciled

to God and to one another.
The Spirit enables people to receive forgiveness
as they forgive one another and to enjoy the peace of God
as they make peace among themselves.

In spite of their sin, the Spirit gives people power
to become representatives of Jesus Christ
and his gospel of reconciliation to all.

Prayer of  Thanksgiving and Intercession (ending with the Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.  Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For Thine is the    Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory forever.   Amen.

Benediction

Congregational Response Christ is risen! Earth and heaven Nevermore shall be the same.

Break the bread of new creation  Where the world is still in pain

Tell its grim, demonic chorus: “Christ is risen! Get you gone!”

God the First and Last is with us. Sing Hosanna, everyone!
