Thought for Worship

“The Here and the Now: Living in the Presence of the Living God.”
God’s saving work is not something we wait for - it’s something we join in.  We sing a new song because resurrection life is already stirring in us, and in the world, here and now.

  GATHERING

Welcome

Prelude    Joyful, Joyful  We Adore Thee    |  Hegerty

Call to Worship

Votum

Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

                            Amen

Opening Sentences

Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him.

Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.

Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.

For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.

The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love.

Salutation Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ Amen.

*Hymn of Praise   Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing

Call to Confession

Brothers and sisters in Christ, the Scriptures remind us that if we say we have no sin, we deceive  ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Trusting in God’s  mercy, let us come before Him in humility and faith, and confess our sins together. Let us now join together as we read our prayer of  confession in unison:

 Prayer of  Confession

Have mercy upon us, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercies, blot out our transgressions.  Wash us thoroughly from our iniquity, and cleanse us from our sin. For we know our transgressions, and our sin is ever before us. Create in us a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within us. Cast us not from your  presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from us. Restore to us the joy of your salvation and uphold us with a willing spirit. Through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

 Assurance of Pardon

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Believe the Good News of the Gospel. Our Sins are forgiven.

    The Law of God

Hear now the summary of God’s Law: Our Lord Jesus Christ said, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” - Matthew 22:37-40 And as the prophet Micah proclaimed, “What does the Lord require of you but to act justly, to love  mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” - Micah 6:8  In these words we are reminded that true obedience flows from love-love for God and love for one another-expressed through  justice, mercy, and humble service.

*Gloria Patri

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

*Commitment to Peace Keeping and Peace Seeking

One: May the peace of Christ be with you!

All: And also with you!

Share a sign of peace with one another. After sharing the peace, let us all sing together:

Together, by grace, we witness and work, remembering Jesus, in whom we grow strong. Together we serve in Spirit and truth, remembering love is the strength of our song.

THE WORD OF GOD

Anthem      Guide Me Lord    | arr. Heath

Prayer for Illumination

Gracious and Holy God, by Your grace alone we are gathered in this place.    By faith alone we open our hearts to receive Your Word. Through Christ alone we find the light that leads us home. By Scripture alone we seek Your truth, and to Your glory alone we offer our listening and our lives. Send now Your Spirit among us—shine through the words read and proclaimed, so that the saints of yesterday and the seekers of today may be  united in Your everlasting light. In the name of Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, we pray. Amen.

Silent Reflection

THE RESPONSE TO GOD

*Affirmation of Faith (Apostles’ Creed)

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I       believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was  buried; He descended to hell.  The third day he rose again from the dead.  He ascended to  heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.  From there He will come to judge the  living and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life  everlasting.  Amen.

Offering                Divine Encounter  |   Courtney

Blessing on the Offering  ...Your kingdom may come on earth as it is in heaven.  In Jesus 'name we pray,  Amen.

*Doxology                   Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him all creatures here below;

Praise him above ye heavenly hosts; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen!

Prayer of Dedication

Prayer of  Thanksgiving and Intercession (ending with the Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.  Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we  forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For Thine is the  Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory forever.   Amen.
