Call to Worship

Votum

Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

                            Amen

Opening Sentences

We gather this day, surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses—the saints who have gone before us, whose faith shines still.

We come, thankful for their example, inspired by their faith, strengthened by their love.

By grace alone we are saved, by faith alone we believe, through Christ alone we live, guided by Scripture alone, and all to the glory of God alone!

Let us worship the Lord of all generations— the Alpha and the Omega, the Light that never fades.

Salutation Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ Amen.

*Hymn of Praise   Will  You Come and Follow Me

Call to Confession

Brothers and sisters in Christ, the Scriptures remind us that if we say we have no sin, we deceive  ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Trusting in God’s  mercy, let us come before Him in humility and faith, and confess our sins together. Let us now join together as we read our prayer of  confession in unison:

 Prayer of  Confession

Holy and merciful God, we confess that we have not always reflected Your light. We have doubted Your grace, relied on our own strength, and trusted in voices other than Your Word. We forget that faith is a gift, that Christ alone redeems, and that our purpose is Your glory. Forgive us, O Lord. Renew us by Your Spirit, that we may walk again in the company of saints - faithful, forgiven, and free. Through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.  Amen.

 Assurance of Pardon

Believe the good news of the Gospel. By grace alone, God claims you. Through faith alone, you are made whole. In Christ alone, you are forgiven. According to Scripture alone, this promise is true - and all to the glory of God alone!

    The Law of God

Jesus said: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:37–40

*Gloria Patri

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

*Commitment to Peace Keeping and Peace Seeking

One: May the peace of Christ be with you!

All: And also with you!

Share a sign of peace with one another. After sharing the peace, let us all sing together:

Together, by grace, we witness and work, remembering Jesus, in whom we grow strong. Together we serve in Spirit and truth, remembering love is the strength of our song.

Prayer for Illumination

Gracious and Holy God, by Your grace alone we are gathered in this place.    By faith alone we open our hearts to receive Your Word. Through Christ alone we find the light that leads us home. By Scripture alone we seek Your truth, and to Your glory alone we offer our listening and our lives. Send now Your Spirit among us—shine through the words read and proclaimed, so that the saints of yesterday and the seekers of today may be     united in Your everlasting light. In the name of Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, we pray. Amen.

Silent Reflection

THE RESPONSE TO GOD

*Affirmation of Faith (Nicene Creed)

We believe in one God,

the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary,
and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father [and the Son],
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

One:  Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

All:  It is right to give our thanks and praise.

One: Holy and right it is and our joyful duty to give thanks to you at all times and in all places, O Lord our Creator, almighty and  everlasting God...

Remembering the Work of Christ

One: Most righteous God, we remember in this Supper the perfect sacrifice offered once on the cross by our Lord Jesus Christ for the sin of the whole world.  Together we proclaim the mystery of faith:

Memorial Acclamation

All:  Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.

Invocation of the Spirit

One: So send your Holy Spirit upon us we pray…  Even so, come Lord Jesus we pray.

All:  Amen

Holy Communion

       Words of Institution and Invitation

One:   The body of Christ is broken for you.

One:   The blood of Christ is shed for you.

Prayer after Communion

Brothers and sisters,
since the Lord has now fed us at his Table,
let us praise God’s holy name with heartfelt thanksgiving!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,

and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and do not forget all his benefits—
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the Pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy.
The Lord is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
He does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.

For as the heavens are high above the earth,
so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west,
so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
As a father has compassion for his children,
so the Lord has compassion for those who fear him,
who did not spare his own Son,
but gave him up for us all,
and will also give us all things with him.
Therefore shall my mouth and heart show forth the praise of the Lord,        from this time forth forevermore.  Amen.

Prayer of  Thanksgiving and Intercession (ending with the Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.  Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we  forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For Thine is the  Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory forever.   Amen.
