Summing Up Missions at PRC
This "Moment for Missions" is a summation of the works in mission performed by members of the Peapack Reformed Church. Good morning.
I want to talk with you for a few minutes this morning about Missions. I believe the Mission program of our church, or any church, is a very important part of the life of the church. I believe it is our responsibility and our privilege as Christians to give of ourselves and our wallets to help the less fortunate. We, at Peapack Reformed Church, have committed to feeding God’s lambs both physically and spiritually, at home in Somerset County and all the way to Mozambique, Africa. Our budget tells a big story. We support the work of our Partners in Mission, Lance and Elizabeth Edwards, who are teaching new farming methods and caring for orphans in Mozambique. We broadcast the “Good News” through Words of Hope to people around the world who do not have the written word.
We give to the New Brunswick Theological Seminary to support the education of both new and experienced ministers.
Many underprivileged children have received scholarships to attend Warwick Camp in New York State because of us.
We tend to the needy who are elderly with our gifts to the Reformed Church Home and the Somerset Chaplancy to the Elderly. This organization supports clergy who minister to the residents of local nursing homes.
Because of us, students at Rutgers have the opportunity to receive Christian fellowship at the Protestant Campus Ministry led by Barbara Hick.
Women in crisis situations arising from drug and alcohol addicton are finding recovery at the Good News Home for Women in Flemington, an organization our budget supports. Yes, our beautiful Somerset County has homeless people – men, women and children. We send a gift each year to the Interfaith Hospitality Network, and we have helped prepare and serve meals for those served by this organization. When natural disasters strike, Church World Service is there to help, and we contribute to this emergency work. A very visible Mission project is Habitat for Humanity, and members of this church this year have helped to build three homes in Lambertville and will continue to support the two homes being built in Bernardsville.
SHIP is one of the long-time mission areas that Peapack Reformed Church has supported. The Samaritan Homeless Interim Program provides food, counseling, emergency shelter and legal aid to the working poor of Somerset County. And for several years, members of this church have rolled up their sleeves to serve a hot meal and then clean up at the Bound Brook Soup Kitchen. You as a congregation make it possible for this church to have a very active Mission program. I invite you all to get involved personally, and I urge you all to continue to give generously. Thank you.
